2014 DECORATIVE CONCRETE AWARDS

The Decorative Concrete Council, a specialty council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors, has announced Unique Concrete as the first place winners of its sixth Annual Decorative Concrete Awards competition (Cast-In-Place, Stamped, Over 5,000 Square Feet).

ARTISAN IN CONCRETE

Unique Concrete is true to its name. Like many decorative concrete contracting firms, it constructs pool surrounds, patios, sidewalks and driveways. However, unlike other contractors, it also specializes in laying concrete on top of decks.

CONCRETE OVER WOOD DECK

A couple of homeowners in West Milford, N.J., were looking to enhance the curb appeal of their house by enhancing the front entryway. They initially contacted us about the possibility of resurfacing concrete steps leading to the front door and pouring a new sidewalk from the driveway to the steps.

STAMPING OLD FASHION WAY

On a typical new-construction job, our company begins with the preparation of the grade and formwork. The total thickness of the concrete would depend on what type of application we are dealing with, but typically we look to pour around 5 inches.

CONCRETE DECOR ARTICLE

Barry Fisher, owner of Unique Concrete, West Milford, N.J., says offering flextime can be beneficial, as long as the policy is not abused. “You must recognize that they have a private life, and can’t always take care of personal business during their off-hours,” he says.

10 IDEAS FOR CONCRETE ENTRYWAYS

Concrete Network’s article on 10 Ideas For Great Concrete Entryways features Unique Concrete and teaches you how to create a grand entrance to your home with concrete walkways, steps and decorative accents.

DECORATIVE CONCRETE PROJECT

Concrete Construction’s Decorative Concrete Project of the Year by Unique Concrete was constructed to support a very large motor home. The result was cast-in-place concrete tiles that would not come apart.

CONCRETE OVERLAY TRANSFORMS ENTRYWAY

This home’s tile-covered entryway steps and adjoining patio had clearly seen better days. The tiles were starting to delaminate and spall becoming slippery and hazardous when wet. The owners were looking for an economical solution to restore the structural integrity of the entryway and improve the curb appeal.

HOW TO COVER OLD WOOD DECKS

You will be intrigued just as I was by the concept of poured concrete over weathered wood decks and interior wooden floors that have settled unevenly in old houses. Think how much nicer these areas could look as long as they can be made structurally sound enough to handle the additional weight.
